What Is the Timed Typing Test?

The Timed Typing Test gives you full control over both your difficulty level and how long you want to practice. Unlike the fixed 2-minute Falling Words game or the single-paragraph test, this mode lets you pick from four durations — 30 seconds, 1 minute, 2 minutes, or 5 minutes — so you can fit a quick sprint into a short break or push for a longer endurance session when you have more time.

Once you start, a continuous stream of practice text is generated based on your selected level, and you simply type for as long as the clock runs. Your Words Per Minute updates live as you type, and a final accuracy score is calculated the moment time runs out.

Choosing the Right Duration

Shorter tests like 30 seconds or 1 minute are great for quick daily check-ins on your speed, while longer 2 or 5-minute tests are better for measuring endurance — how well you maintain speed and accuracy as fatigue sets in. Many typists find it useful to alternate between short and long sessions throughout the week to build both quick reflexes and sustained focus.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I change the duration after starting?

No, but once a test ends you can use "Change Level / Duration" to pick new settings and start fresh immediately.

How is WPM calculated during the test?

WPM is calculated live based on the number of correctly typed characters divided by five, adjusted for elapsed time.

What happens if I finish the text before time runs out?

More practice text is generated automatically in the background, so you'll never run out of words to type before the timer ends.
